How wearing the same outfit for your wedding day morning can help the mood.

I recently interviewed the co-founder of Le Rose Stories, a company that sells bridal sleepwear and bridesmaids proposal boxes. We spoke about the importance of mood and how to maintain a sense of calm on the morning of your wedding day.

1. Getting ready morning outfits didn't used to be a big deal for brides. What changed that made this such an important part of the day now?

Honestly, brides woke up to how much the morning matters. It became a photographed chapter of the day, and once you see those images you realise it is a few precious hours that are genuinely about you, your besties and your family, before everything turns to the two of you. Social media takes a lot of flak in the wedding world, and some of that is fair, but we see the other side of it too. Sometimes a bride catches a quiet morning moment online and thinks, I want that on my day. It is not always the comparison of material things, sometimes it is simply a reminder of a moment worth protecting. And there is a practical side that matters just as much. You need something to wear while your hair and makeup are done, something that comes off without disturbing either, and something that keeps the whole party looking considered rather than thrown together. The robe answers a real need and happens to look beautiful doing it.

2. You've sent robes to brides in over 30 countries. Does planning for a destination wedding change what people order or when they order it?

It does not really change what people order. Being conscious of the climate at the destination is important, a heavy robe is a joy on a cool morning and a lot to wear in the tropics. Packing weight is worth considering too. And if you are the bride ordering for your bridesmaids, it is best to allow enough time to give them their outfits before everyone travels. The last thing you want is your entire suitcase full of everyone's getting-ready outfits.

3. How does what a bride chooses for her getting ready outfit usually connect to the overall mood or theme she's set for her wedding?

I find it depends on her personality, the overall theme of the wedding, and how much importance she places on continuity across that theme. The getting-ready photos in her album will set the tone for the whole day, so for a lot of brides the morning look is chosen to carry the same story through. It also depends on who is in the room while she gets ready. Some brides get ready in the family home and prefer to wear something a little more conservative, and that is part of the choice too.

4. Do you find brides treat this as a practical purchase, or is there real emotion wrapped up in choosing it?

It is a bit of both. Practical in the sense that you need something suitable to wear for hair and makeup, but the emotion is real too. For a lot of brides the robe is the first thing they put on that morning, and that is the moment it starts to feel real. It is quiet time with the people closest to you before the day picks up pace and stops being entirely your own. We have had brides tell us they teared up putting it on and were not expecting to. So yes, it is practical, but I would never pretend it is only practical.

5. When bridesmaids all get matching robes, what impact have you seen that have on how the morning actually feels for the group?

It changes the feeling of the whole morning. There is a small ritual in everyone putting them on together, and it makes the party feel like a party rather than people waiting around. It quietly answers the "what do I wear" question for every bridesmaid, which removes a surprising amount of low-level stress. And it photographs as a group that belongs together. The morning tends to feel more like the beginning of the celebration and less like the admin before it. Matching slippers help to tie it all together too, and save you having to tell a bridesmaid to take off her bright pink Havaianas for the photos.

6. If a couple is on a tight budget, where does something like this rank compared to other early wedding purchases?

Honestly, it is not the first thing to buy. The dress, the venue, the photographer, those come first and they should. But some of the photos and moments from my own wedding morning were my favourite parts of the day. It is in almost every photo from the first hour, and it doubles as the bridesmaid gift you were going to buy regardless. So we would not tell a bride on a tight budget to prioritise it over the essentials. We would tell her it is one of the few small purchases that earns its place, and that folding it into the gifting budget rather than treating it as extra is the sensible way to do it.
