How to prepare for your wedding ceremony (without letting the nerves win)

You're about to walk down the aisle, stand in front of your favourite people, and say words you might’ve rehearsed a hundred times in your head. It’s exciting. It’s emotional. And yep, it can make even the most confident human a little sweaty-palmed. But fear not — here’s how to calm those nerves and feel ready to soak it all in.

1. Ask Your Wedding Celebrant to Walk You Through the Ceremony

Don’t leave it all to your imagination. I always take my couples through the ceremony flow — so you know exactly when you’ll talk, where you’ll stand, and what happens next. Spoiler: as your marriage celebrant, I’ve got your back the entire time.

2. Practice Just a Little (but Not Too Much)

Run through your vows out loud — once or twice. Enough to feel comfortable, not so much that it starts to feel robotic. And remember: emotion is welcome. Sniffles and laughter included.

3. Breathe and Ground Yourself Sounds woo-woo, but it works.

Take three slow breaths before you walk in. Feel your feet on the ground. Remind yourself: I’m safe. I’m loved. I’m ready.

4. Eat Something and Stay Hydrated Nerves + empty stomach = not ideal.

Snack on something light (and not messy), and sip water throughout the morning. Trust me — future you will thank you.

5. Be in the Moment

You only do this once — try to notice the smiles, the giggles, the way your partner looks at you. Nerves tend to fade when presence takes over.

Wedding nerves are totally normal — and totally manageable. With the right support (hello, that’s me Married By Leah!), a few deep breaths, and a bit of prep, you’ll feel calm, confident, and ready to say I do like a pro.
